Automad is a flat content management system and template engine written in PHP. All content is stored in human readable text files instead of a database. An Automad site is therefore fully portable, easy to install and can be version controlled by using Git or Mercurial. It nevertheless offers database features like searching and tagging. The built-in template engine allows even inexperienced developers and designers to create beautiful themes and templates.
The browser-based dashboard offers an intuitive way of managing your site. Configure system settings, upload images or write a blog post by using a clean and responsive user interface.
Use the built-in one-click updater to get all new features and keep your Automad installation up-to-date easily.
It ships with a built-in Markdown editor and can be used by multiple users. The dashboard works on all modern desktop and mobile browsers.
Automad works out of the box. It includes multiple elegant and responsive portfolio and blog themes. You can start right away with your new website. In case you are missing a feature - Automad is designed to be easily extendable.
Edit your pages directly while browsing your website. The In-Page Edit Mode is active as soon as you get logged in.
Automad’s template interpreter is written in pure PHP and processes templates on the fly. No extra build process is required. The list of system requirements is also rather short. A web server with PHP 5.4+ is enough to run a site.
Pages are only rendered when content has changed or after system updates. Automad’s multi-layer caching engine stores the rendered pages in separate HTML files as well as all crawled data in the file system as a kind of content object. That object is also used to speed up searching and filtering of pages.
Create your own templates and themes using Automad's built-in template engine. The engine provides a lot of features like image processing, loops, conditions, filtering, sorting, tagging and searching to create professional websites without the need of PHP. In case your site requires a missing feature, it can be easily implemented as a PHP extension to be used in templates.
